We protect your
personal information
All of our systems (software, hardware and processes) are compliant with HIPAA, PIPEDA and PHIPA. All testing is carried out within a CLIA certified lab, and all test panels underwent rigorous validations as required by CLIA.
Before your cheek swab sample is processed, it is de-identified and associated with a unique identification code (barcode). There is no Personal Identifiable Information (PII) associated with your sample when it is processed and analyzed in the lab.
Your PII is securely collected via online registration, so there is no PII associated with your sample during shipping. Lab policy is to destroy your sample 6 months after processing. This can be done sooner upon request.
Your PII and raw genetic data resulting from the processing of your sample are stored in separate, secure databases. Both your PII and raw genetic data are encrypted in-transit and at rest, and stored on servers within Canada.
Your Report (which includes your PII and an interpretation of genetic data) are stored on a HIPAA-compliant web server that is accessible only via a secure portal (also only in Canada).
We do NOT sell or share your genetic information to any third party
Unlike other consumer genomics companies, we ONLY look at a limited number (~80 - 135) of genetic markers specifically related to the test results that we report. Some companies analyze hundreds of thousands of genetic markers and deliver information based on a small subset of them - the vast majority is used for data mining, which makes their data valuable to third parties like big pharma companies for drug discovery.
In Canada, there is a law (Bill S-201 — the Genetic Non-Discrimination Act) which prevents
discrimination based on genetic information. Test results are delivered directly to the patient
and/or their healthcare provider, and are NOT delivered to insurers/brokers/employers/etc.
